Getting Started
You don’t need to take any more steps toward starting therapy alone. Follow these steps and we will walk you through the rest.
STEP 1:
Reach out by phone, email, or through the contact page to inquire about services and set up a consultation call.
STEP 2:
Participate in a 15-20 minute call to help us learn more about what you are looking for from therapy, and to create a plan toward those goals.
STEP 3:
Schedule your first session. Congrats! You are ready to jump into therapy. After your call, contact Cara to schedule your first session and complete initial paperwork.
If Theraworks is not the next step for you, we are happy to provide referrals for our network of professionals that will best meet your therapy needs. We strive to help people have a positive experience with mental health care both in and outside of our practice.
What to expect from therapy
Therapy is a slow and steady journey — one that yields incredible, life-changing results. The therapeutic process is a lot like building a house:
First, we lay the the foundation. This is when we build our relationship, explore what you came to therapy for, and create a vision for treatment.
Second, we get to work building the house — together. This is the bulk of therapy and consists of deconstructing old habits and building up new ones. We work right alongside you throughout the entire process.
Third, we move onto the decorating. Think fine-tuning and polishing skills, making adjustments as needed, and working together for longterm maintenance as long as you are wanting.
What can you expect from a session?
Most sessions are conversation based with practice of coping skills sprinkled in as needed (that could be breath work, regulating the nervous system, calming techniques like meditation and use of essential oils, anger expression skills, etc.). We may also practice relationship skills — like having hard conversations or asserting boundaries — via role play to help set you up for success in your life outside of the room. If you’re unsure of or nervous about what to talk about during therapy, it’s OK — it’s our job to help guide you and find your voice.
What should you do between sessions?
To get the most out of therapy, we encourage our clients to take what they learn in our office into the real world. That can range from trying to focus on a new mindset, journaling from a prompt we provide, reading a book we recommend, or having a conversation with a loved one we practiced in session. No matter what the work outside the room may be, applying these practices helps our clients get them most out of their experience.
FAQs
How long + how often are sessions?
Therapy appointments typically last 50 minutes to an hour. Consistency is a key factor in therapy success. Clients start weekly or bi-weekly to get fully engaged with the process. After, we can find a cadence and session length that works best for your treatment, your schedule, and your budget.
I am feeliug nervous about therapy — is that normal?
Yes! Most people have mixed feelings about starting therapy. While it is exciting to think about making change, you may feel intimidated by thoughts like, “I don’t know where to start,” and “there are things I need to talk about, but it’s scary.” Having these thoughts shows you are in a great place to start! Your therapist is here to help you feel comfortable.
When will I start to feel better?
This varies depending on what you are seeking help for, how often you come, and the work you do outside of sessions. That said, most clients express feeling changed within the first three to six months.
How much does therapy cost?
Individual therapy: $155 per session
Family therapy: $155 per session
Diagnostic assessment: $400
If the cost feels out of reach, please still reach out. When possible, we can customize your therapy plan — adjusting the length and frequency of sessions — to fit your budget. I can also provide referrals to professionals within your budget.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance; however, we can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your health insurance provider as some plans cover psychotherapy. We suggest that you contact your insurance provider about out of network benefits.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a document that itemizes the services you receive at Theraworks. You can submit this to your insurance for partial or full reimbursement depending on if your plan covers out-of-network providers. Your superbill is available monthly in the client portal and by email. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee reimbursement as it’s dependent on your insurance plan.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I am not a medical doctor. If you would like to pursue medication management or have questions about your current medication please feel free to ask me for a referral to a psychiatrist.
Why attend therapy over self-help resources?
Today we have more access to resources and information than ever. I highly encourage you to utilize and explore your health outside of therapy as well. Attending therapy provides you with personalized professional help, and a trusted provider to hold you accountable. It is like the difference between working out by yourself versus with a personal trainer. Research shows the biggest catalyst of change in therapy is the therapeutic relationship you have with your clinician, which is what we prioritize at Theraworks.
